Sony World Photography Awards

I went to the World Photography Festival (on this week at Somerset House) to hear a fantastic lecture by renowned photojournalist Tom Stoddart. While it was fascinating, and perhaps controversial, to listen to his often pretty commercial take on photographing victims of famine, natural disaster, and terrorism, we were also surrounded by the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition.

The winner of this year's 'L'Iris D'Or' award is Argentinian photographer Alejandro Chaskielberg, and his work was mind-blowing.


The suite of work he won the award for all focus on Argentineans going about their daily life or work, during the night. With very careful set-ups, and extremely long exposures, he achieves this astonishing and cinematic quality of light.
